LoRaWAN Rain Sensors and Gauges Compared: MacSync LORS X1 vs Hydreon RG-15 vs Decentlab DL-TBRG vs Dragino vs Milesight

Five ways to get rain data into a system. Two are optical with no moving parts, two are tipping or pulse gauges that count volume, and one is a station's piezoelectric sensor. Every figure is from the maker's own page; the differences that matter are what each one outputs and what it claims.

The published figures

Every value is as each manufacturer publishes it, checked on 23 October 2026. Where a page does not state a figure, the cell says so.

Where each fits

What the table means for your site

Where the MacSync LORS X1 fits

Many points that must act on rain — drains, blocks, rooftops, yards — on IN865 as standard, a battery rated for years, threshold alerts and Class C from a phone app, with a maker that states what its datasheet does not cover. Made in Pune with WPC compliance and local support. Not an official gauge: pair the ring with one.

Where the Hydreon RG-15 fits

A wired optical sensor that emulates a tipping bucket for a controller or logger you already have, with a maker candid about field accuracy. No radio, no enclosure, no battery; the integrator builds the rest.

Where the Decentlab DL-TBRG fits

Reference-grade totals from a 200 cm² tipping bucket on LoRaWAN, with the tightest published accuracy of the five. A bucket to keep clean and level; bands and IP rating are not on its page.

Where the Dragino kit fits

A main unit reading an optical pulse head, with power and cabinet bought locally; IN865 is listed and the rain accuracy is not.

Where the Milesight WTS506 fits

A six-parameter station whose piezoelectric rain sensor publishes tight total figures; the right choice when one point needs wind, temperature, humidity and pressure as well.

Questions

Choosing between them

The Decentlab DL-TBRG and, as a pulse emulation, the Hydreon RG-15 and the Dragino WSS-08; the Milesight station publishes totals from its piezoelectric sensor. The MacSync LORS X1 reports intensity and a rain class; totals are computed on the platform as an estimate.

The MacSync LORS X1, designed and manufactured in Pune and WPC compliant for IN865. The others are imported; Dragino and Milesight list IN865, Decentlab does not state bands, and the Hydreon has no radio.

The MacSync LORS X1's 19 Ah variant is rated about 7 or more years at hourly reports (datasheet estimate). The Decentlab runs on two C cells with no life stated; the Dragino kit on a 1,000 mAh cell with local solar; the Hydreon is powered by its host.
